We coped OK without our best player, (and with losing another key player early) against a side who are still decent, despite their results not being stellar this season.

While it was a bit smash and grab (I feel our three goals were a bit against the run of play, and were I a Wolves fan I'd be wondering how the fuck we were 3-0 down after 35 minutes) we did really well and showed resolve to hold on for the win, especially after all the parallels to the Arsenal game. It did help that the ref in this occasion wasn't seemingly desperate for the opposition to come back and win.

I criticised the team selection but he got it right. It's clear the squad needs more balance though, and more cover in certain areas.

"All in all, a great result but confirmation of the squad depth issues and need to bring in 4 or 5 quality players to cover left back, central midfield and forward areas ( 2 strikers needed).

I cannot see us making top 4 and think top 6 is still a stretch but am enjoying just being part of it. :-) "

Agree with that. To be in the top 6 would be nice and a fitting end to the Prem season.

Still beaming.

The doom and gloom merchants shut up very quickly.

Hope the injury knocks last night are not too serious.

I thought the maligned Noble did well. Did we end up moving the ball forward much quicker without Rice?

7 goals in a game and a half, so the other half doesn't count?

Funny old game

We were scoreless against Wolves in their first two seasons back in the Premier league.
This season ... 7 goals in a game and a half

I have to say, the resilience of us, last night, with all that happened with Rice, Antonio, etc was excellent.

I can't lie, I thought that yesterday would see us get soundly beaten, as injuries finally caught up with us - thankfully, they didn't. I was really proud of the way we dug in to get the result - it took a lot of character.

I still think our lack of quality in depth, in certain areas will bite us on the arse, come the end of the season. But, we're still in with a fighting chance.

Come On You Irons!!

That game was like some maaaaaad bet builder

2 west ham centre backs booked in under ten minutes
Less than 2 corners
Over 5.5 Goals
Lingard to score
Lingard to assist

well worth a tenner of anyones money....

Such a strange season - wolves were the attractive new wife your best mate attaches himself to last season - lots to admire however sadly out of reach -- ever since we gubbed them theyve been very hit and miss- think the jiminez injury has really hit them plus jota and doherty being replaced with effectively kids

Still needed beating tho and we surely did that- goals all over that front 6 - who needs a striker .. I thought last night would be alot more compact and tight . what do i know

great to see fornals back and arthur too - does worry me how short our bench is however we have defied the cynics and critics all season long, so heads uip and on we go IRRRRRROOONS

I hope all the knicker wetters on the site last night who before the match were saying we couldn't possibly win without Rice with Noble in the team are fucking embarrassed with themselves, reminded me of those whiny Spurs fans you get on talkshite/5 live from time to time!!

Not taking anything away from last night but I think these injuries will catch up with us, and we are still so reliant on Antonio. Back to his unplayable best when he was on, but it will now invariably end up with him getting injured playing at full tilt. Not replacing Haller will bite us on the arse.

Re: ⚽ Wolves v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
I'm hoping the Antonio's ham string issues is more about protecting him than him having a major problem.

I think we missed Rice breaking up play which allowed Wolves to have so much of the ball in the second half. That kind of worries me a bit because we looked like we didnt have an answer to their possession.

As much as Noble did well, I still feel we should have had someone mode dynamic in their like Fornals and put Benny on earlier. Maybe because Fornals is coming back from injury I dont know.

I feel for Arthurs first game back he did pretty well. He hasnt played a 1st team game for over 6 months. I think he will be an important outlet for us.

The issue for me is that we cant play a defensive game. We cannot sit back and soak up pressure. We need to be on the front foot the whole game and we need players that want to move forward with energy to win games. I think Arthur, Benny and Lanzini will be crucial for us in the last 8 games just because thats more of their bag.

I also think getting Ogbonna back will be massive as Creswell still needs cover for that left side. Their second goal, I just dont know how that happens so easily. Our defence completely out of position or not tracking their player.

I also love what Lingard said about game management. Something that we have lacked in the past. We need all of that in the last 8 games.

Amazing 1st half kind of soured by antonio's injury really. But thats football. We're doing so well!

Fantastic!!!! In our hands now so gutted Micky got injured thought he was a monster, I have done mine shooting like that but he walked off pretty well so cant see it being too bad hopefully. Think Lingard will be fine, playing the best football he's ever played at west ham. Need Oggy back Diop has too many lapses of concentration. Soucek is prone to a dodgy pass but is so good at attacking runs, just hope we can stay in the mix up to the end!!!!!

Re: ⚽ Wolves v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
My pessimistic self was back before the game yesterday. It was just like old times :-)

But I had not factored in the Lingard effect. He effectively won it for us first half. We would probably have lost 2-0 or more if he was not available. His change of pace is impressive but also his speed of thought and willingness/bravery to try something different in the final 3rd. Wolves got a lot closer to him 2nd half but he was still causing problems with his running into space.

The game was uncomfortable from the moment they got their goal just before half time. Psychologically always a problem. And like most it was a great relief to hold onto a lead this time out.

Noble did a good a job as he can and the return of Fornals helped. Masuaku had some good and bad moments.

The negative ( back to my favourite territory ) was of course injuries. Antonio is unable ever to be fit enough to be a lead striker and you wonder now if the hamstrings issue will curtail his career early? The loss of Rice is going to impact and Soucek was, by his standards, poor on the night.

Diop will never be brave enough IMO to be relied on and either does not see danger or simply does not take responsibility?

Coufal is a machine and did well despite being outpaced by Traore a few times and Dawson was ok although the return of a fit Ogbonna cannot come quick enough.

All in all, a great result but confirmation of the squad depth issues and need to bring in 4 or 5 quality players to cover left back, central midfield and forward areas ( 2 strikers needed).

I cannot see us making top 4 and think top 6 is still a stretch but am enjoying just being part of it. :-)
